Welcome to
PLAYING OUT LOUD!
An online monthly guide to live music in the South.
AUGUST 2003

Welcome to the August edition of Playing Out Loud, POL for short. As regular visitors will know, and there are thousands of them now making 50,000+ hits per month, our mission is to stimulate interest in live music and let you know what’s on and where in Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire and parts of adjoining counties.
Jazz, pop, blues, folk, country, rock, soul and classical music are all
covered - if it’s live it’s here. But POL is not just a gigs listing site.
Our Festival Focus section has been updated to cover the huge number of summer festivals in the South during August and September.
The Food & Things section is another popular recent innovation. Containing a Restaurant of the Month review, it will be expanded to include other lifestyle-related information with useful tips on places to go, days out, shopping, wine and special offers.
We have also split our Reviews section into Festival, Gig and CD Reviews and continues to feature exclusive interviews and reports linked to current gigs in our Articles section and report the latest news in our News section.
Also, another new section, the Message Board, allows people to submit comments on anything music-related and advertise records or musical instruments for sale or recruit band members free of charge.
We also offer our services, for a small fee, to bands and performers
looking to improve their press, media or web content, and help them get more gigs. With over twenty years media experience, I personally know what is required to get media coverage and how to present it, so email me for more details. If you like the look of this website my website manager can also help you set up your own website or improve your existing one. Again, just email for more information.
One thing we are particularly keen to encourage is more response from our visitors, so let us have your ideas on what you would like to see in POL. So if there are any gaps in our coverage of gigs and venues, just let us know. Now get out there and enjoy some live music!

Eastleigh Summer Festival.
Eastleigh
July 28th - August 3rd

       STOP PRESS!

Eastleigh Summer Music Festival is set to be a roaring success. Festival
Organiser Peter Chegwyn reports excellent sales for all the shows in the Big Top in Leigh Road Recreation Ground, the two concerts at The Point Arts Centre and the appearance of Jools Holland’s Rhythm & Blues Orchestra in Manor Farm Country Park.
The week kicks off with an audience with the great Dennis Locorriere now
forging a successful solo career. Formerly the front man with Dr Hook, Dennis is playing an acoustic one-man show at The Point to open the week’s attractions on Monday July 29. Over in the Big Top the next day Bob Geldof will be supported by Jamie Moses, guitarist with Loc Pacaminos. Wednesday features The Drifters & Real Abba Gold, Thursday presents The Levellers & Berroguetto, Friday it’s The SAS Band with Paul Young, Leo Sayer, Graham Gouldman of 10cc and many other star names.
The weekend sees The Saw Doctors & Jackie Leven playing on Saturday and everyone’s favourite Rolf Harris bringing his Rock & Rolf Show to the park on Sunday. Meanwhile, Jools and co with guest Sam Brown play over at Manor Farm Country Park on Thursday and Show of Hands headline a night of folk music at The Point on Wednesday.
Afternoon concerts include South American pan pipe sounds from Kausary, Berroguetto from Spain, high energy African bands Zambula and Zuba, plus local rock bands Sounder and Uncle Herb. The free entertainment culminates with jazz and world music on a Sunday Funday on August 3 featuring The New Gateway Jazz Band, Indian drummers The Dhol Blasters and much more. There will also be plenty of free entertainment for kids throughout the festival, plus a Craft Fayre, Food Fayre and licensed bar. Tickets are available via The Point (02380
652333), The Brook in Southampton (02380 555366) or online via
www.eastleighfestival.co.uk or www.ticketweb.co.uk.  (©Peter Ashton 2003)

I have the pleasure of working for a diverse clientbase, ranging from international corporate businesses and independent music magazines, to local bands. Although I suppose I must be a specialist in a few areas, I regard every assignment as a challenge, and will take on anything.
