PLAYING OUT LOUD!
NEWS

Music fans in the South will be familiar with a band called Hershey & The 12-Bars fronted by one Richard Shirman. During the 60s Richard was lead singer in a band called The Attack who very nearly made it big. Now after years of negotiations their unreleased album entitled “About Time” has been released.
A feast of psychedelic rock, the album is available on catalogue number RPM BC 517, through the distributors Pinnacle. It includes a 16-page pullout leaflet packed with previously unseen photos, and the sleeve notes are written by no less than Chris Welch, the Melody Maker’s Features Editor during the 60s.

A new entertainment venue is opening in Andover this autumn. Called The Lights it is being developed from what was the old Cricklade Theatre. The Lights will feature a new arena hall, bar and cafe area, function rooms, meeting rooms, a dance studio and a refitted auditorium. An exciting mix of music, theatre and dance is planned plus a programme of education opportunities for all ages. We will be keeping you posted on developments through this website, and will announce the autumn programme in the near future.

Eastleigh will be treated to the sounds of Neil Diamond on Saturday August 5 in aid of The Mayor of Eastleigh’s Charity Appeal. Neil Diamond has returned to the top of the music charts with his new album "12 songs" and this August sees "Forever in Blue Jeans" the Neil Diamond Tribute show come to The Point Theatre in Eastleigh with performer Robert Leslie reliving the timeless hits of the megastar.

Organiser Kim Garner said, "We are very lucky to have secured Robert Leslie to perform for us as he is an internationally renowned performer in his own right having performed and won Stars In Their Eyes and other shows around the world covering Australia, Europe and America. I’m sure the people of Eastleigh will not want to miss this chance to sing along to great tunes as “Song Sung Blue,” “Love On The Rocks” and Sweet Caroline."

Charities chosen by the Mayor, Councillor Peter Wall, include AAIR (Asthma, Allerger, Inflamation and Research) Eastleigh Young Carers’ Project and the QE11 Activities Centre. Tickets are priced at £11/£9 concessions. Contact the box office on 02380 652333, www.thepoint-online.co.uk  and book your tickets now.
