PLAYING OUT LOUD!
NEWS
There
are two new music venues to tell you about. Firstly The Old Barn, a restored
barn at Gore Road, New Milton, is putting on live music including original bands
and tribute acts every Friday night. Acts coming up in February include Lady
Winwood’s Maggot, Midnight Lace and a Meatloaf/Blues Brothers tribute. See our
February listings for full details. They also do good food and provide
accommodation.
The other new music venue is at The Centre Stage, 14 Queens Road, Bournemouth,
where Paul Hills of Bluehill Music will be presenting live music every Thursday
night. The accent is on blues, jazz and rock and amongst the acts appearing in
February are The Barrelhouse Blues Band, Carvin Jones from the USA, Larry Miller
and Swing Unlimited. Again see our February listings for full details.
Welcome to 2006, which is the year that work finally starts on
an arts centre in Southampton to replace the much missed Gantry. It won’t be
ready for a couple of years but work will start soon on demolishing the old
Tyrrell &
Green’s building, where the centre will eventually be sited. From now on we will
be providing regular progress updates and further information about the design
of the centre, capacity etc.
One of our favourite bands, Pronghorn, are involved in an
Endorse It In Dorset event on Easter Sunday, April 16. But it’s not in Dorset,
it’s in Somerset, at the atmospheric Cheese & Grain venue in Frome. The
Dorset-based cowpunk
outfit are playing a one-day festival with the likes of The Beat and Toupe.
We’ll provide more details later but if you want to book an advance ticket the
number to ring is 01373 455420.
