PLAYING OUT LOUD!
MY MUSIC
This month we introduce a new feature,
My Music in which local musicians
are quizzed about their musical preferences – we begin with Chris Devotion of
The Elvis Suicide and hope you like this ongoing series.
MY
MUSIC – IAN PARKER
What was the first single you bought?
Musical Youth - Pass the Dutchie when I was four!!
And the first album?
An album by The Bangles on cassette. I have no idea which one. I was only really
interested in The Beatles which was uncool at that time so I bought this Bangles
album to take to a party to appear 'cool' aged about 10.
Any song which makes you sad, and why?
Hundreds!! I listen to a lot of depressing music! If I'm feeling down, I find
sad stuff strangely energising. 'Cold Water' by Damien Rice, 'Empty' by Ray
Lamontagne, 'Hurt' Johnny Cash version, 'River of Tears' by Eric Clapton, the
list goes on...
Any song you've just got to turn off if it comes on the
radio?
Anything which Simon Cowell is involved with.
What was the last album you bought?
Lisa Hannigan - Sea Sew
What do you sing in the shower?
I don't really sing in the shower strangely enough. I like accents so if I do
sing in the shower it's probably one verse of any song that comes to mind
repeated in a range of regional accents!
What was the last gig you went to?
Lisa Hannigan
Your favourite Beatles song?
Too many pieces of genius to choose between. I tend to favour John's material
generally though.
What would you like played at your funeral?
I've never thought about it. It would probably be something classical or
instrumental at least. I find the notion of using someone else's words as a
soundtrack to represent one's life or personality a bit uncomfortable.
A review of Ian’s new EP “Demons & Doubters” can be found in our Reviews
section.
