UPTON MUSIC FESTIVAL, POOLE - JULY 8 - 10
This 3-day festival sees performances in varying musical genres from rock to funk to blues and punk. It opens on Friday July8 with an open mic sing and jamming session from 6pm till 11pm with the bands Naked Ape and Mid Life Crisis performing at 9.30pm. Saturday July 9 is an alcohol free zone from 11am till 11pm where various bands perform at Upton Community Centre. Over at the Greenridge pub there will be folk, easy listening and rock and a tea dance. The festival finishes off on Sunday with a Farewell get together from 12pm till 3pm at the Greenridge pub.

THE MARTYRS OF TOLPUDDLE FESTIVAL , DORSET JULY 15 - 17
Highlights this year are the opening party on Friday evening where Graham Moore assembles half the roots musicians in the South-West for a come all ye, followed by Seize the Day. During Saturday they will have a mix of politics and music with an open mic session that runs from 1pm through to till 6pm. In the evening from 7 until 9ish, there's Leon Rosselson and Robb Johnson's Workers Playtime with a number of other guests followed by a local party band who play soul, funk, roots etc. The main day Sunday will feature both speeches and music. The festival also now has a programmed second stage. The main stage is Moishes Bagel (klezmer), Eleanor McEvoy, Hank Wangford and of course, Billy Bragg,plus some young local acts in the marquee. Not just a folk festival, but a political event guests including Tony Benn. But there is also something for the whole family with children’s games a grand procession and more.

Now in its 10th year this highly atmospheric festival not only has a vast array of working steam engines, but lots of live entertainment.
