CHELTENHAM MUSIC FESTIVAL – JUNE 30 – JULY 15
Following the success of 2005’s Russian-themed festival, Festival Artistic Director Martyn Brabbins has chosen to celebrate Scotland: a country, like Russia with which he has strong ties, having been the Associate Principal Conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra for the past 15 years.

We will be promoting the variety of music-making to be found in Scotland, both traditional and contemporary. We have a ceilidh, traditional musicians the Blazin’ Fiddles, opera from Judith Weir as well as the Scottish Chamber Orchestra visiting from Edinburgh performing an exciting new work commissioned from Scots composers David Horne, Edward McGuire, Alasdair Nicolson and Anna Meredith and Sally Beamish, honorary Scot is our featured composer.

Our Festival Academy with Artist-in-Association Markus Stockhausen, return for a week-long residency which sees them giving concerts, workshops at the National Star College and performances out and about in town as part of our new Surround Sound series.

With wonderful chamber music, orchestras and brass bands, lively debate, a classical club night we look forward to welcoming you the audience to the 2006 Festival for a Highland Fling.
