PLAYING OUT LOUD!
NEWS
Soul singer Laura Vane tells me that her Female Front nights on the last Sunday
of every other month at the Orange Rooms in Southampton are proving really
popular. On Sunday July 29 the performers are MC LyricL, apublished
rapper/MC/songwriter and performance lyricist who has worked & performed with
various live bands including Wyclef, MJ Cole, Drew Horley, Seiji, Nathan Haines,
DJ Spinna (New York producer for MosDef), Anthony Tidds (Roots) and Big Daddy
Kane. Plus the band Seeker from Brighton who write smooth funk rock with a dash
of soul, and Anna Robinson also from Brighton who is another rising soul singer.
Then in September Laura has lined up award-winning jazz singer Liane Carol, to
whom Laura herself will be playing support with her band The Part Time Heroes.
SUPPORT THE BROOK!
Southampton’s friendliest music venue, The Brook, is having a few financial
problems at the moment. Liquidators Fanshawe Lofts have been appointed to sort
out a rescue plan and I am assured that the future is still bright for the
venue. The message from The Brook is: “For the time being, anyone who has bought
tickets for forthcoming events should expect them to take place unless we say
otherwise.” Already several successful events have taken place successfully
since the announcement, including a sell-out set from The Jeff Healey Blues
Band.
The Brook has been providing quality live music in Southampton for the last 13
years and we do not want to lose a terrific venue with an atmosphere all its
own. Without The Brook we would not have had the privilege of seeing artists
like Scotty Moore, Nazareth, Taj Mahal, Tony Joe White, Robert Cray and so many
other great acts who don’t seem to get booked at other bigger local venues! The
Brook has an international reputation and music fans come to Southampton from
many miles away knowing they are going to have a great welcome and a fabulous
night. So the message is get down to The Brook regularly and make sure it can
continue to stage the best in live music. You can see what’s coming up on the
website www.the-brook.com
, so ring all your mates and help ensure we have live music at The Brook for
many years to come!
