Welcome to
PLAYING OUT LOUD!
JUNE 2004
An online monthly guide to live music in the South.
Welcome to the June 2004 edition of Playing Out
Loud,
POL for short. More comprehensive than ever
with in-depth articles and interviews. As regular visitors will know, and there
are thousands of them now making 70,000+
hits per month, our mission is to stimulate interest in live music and let you
know what’s on and where in Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire and parts of
adjoining counties. Jazz, pop, blues, folk, country, rock, soul and classical
music are all covered - if it’s live it’s here. But POL
is not just a gigs listing site.
Our Message Board has proved a popular
innovation, but has been mainly used to recruit band members or announce
last-minute gigs. So this month we will be starting an Articles For Sale section
for anyone who wishes to sell albums, CDs, books, musical instruments, magazine,
music ephemera - in fact anything music-related. And it’s completely free. We
will continue to review gigs, CDs, books and restaurants and provide you with
the latest news.
We also offer our services, for a small fee, to bands and performers
looking to improve their press, media or web content, and help them get more
gigs.
With over twenty years media experience, I
personally know what is required to get media coverage and how to present it, so
email me for more details. If you like the look of this website my website
manager can also help you set up your own website or improve your existing one.
Again, just email for more information.
CDs for review or press packs etc should be sent directly to:
Peter Ashton

Highfield,
Southampton,

STOP PRESS! TWO VERY SPECIAL MUSIC FESTIVALS IN HAMPSHIRE THIS WEEKEND!
Lymington and Bursledon are the locations for two charity festivals this
weekend. JOCKSTOCK takes place at Manor Farm Country Park, Bursledon on Friday
night and all day Saturday and Sunday, while BLUESATHON 2004 happens at Woodside
Park, Lymington on Saturday June 19. Here are some more details of some
top-flight entertainment to raise money for two very good causes.
JOCKSTOCK - MANOR FARM COUNTRY PARK - JUNE 18 - 20
Singer-songwriter Jackie Leven is putting on a festival at Manor Farm Country
Park at Bursledon to raise money for the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee
Activites Centre there. Jackie celebrates his birthday on the Friday with An
Englishman, Irishman & A Scotsman, with Andy White and Michael Weston King and
there will be solo sets by Jackie on both Friday and Saturday. Debbie Greenwood
and the Brewery Bar Jazz Band, G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S, Firegarden, Mary Jane, Arlen,
Magic Cat, Skunk Funk, Hard Times String Band & Dan Ogus will also appear over
the weekend.
Hampshire's 'secret' mini-festival will feature loads of other events throughout
the weekend. There will be a limited amount of accommodation available in cabins
in the woods - at £40 per person. The bands are playing for expenses, and all
profits go to the Centre which provides adventure holidays for disabled
children. Price: £15.00 weekend tickets / £7.00 day tickets. Also - 'If you
don't know where here is' - Jackie discusses the literature and arts that have
shaped his creative view. Ring 02380 404844 for more details or see Jackie’s
website www.jackieleven.com

As a professional in media communications for over 20 years, I have had
a massive exposure and experience of just about every media form. From band and
artists promotions, management and music reviews through to celebrity
interviewer, book writer, professional speaker and speech writer.
I have the pleasure of working for a diverse clientbase, ranging from
international corporate businesses and independent music magazines, to local
bands. Although I suppose I must be a specialist in a few areas, I regard every
assignment as a challenge, and will take on anything.
