BOURNEMOUTH LIVE! MUSIC FESTIVAL - JUNE
24 - 28
Bournemouth Live! Music Festival is bigger and better in 2006 with five
whole days of live music set to take Bournemouth by storm. Bournemouth Live! is
an exciting multi-genre music festival, including performances in the towns most
prestigious venues and open spaces, as well as sites all over the town
encompassing local, national
and international performers. Highlights will include a spectacular town centre
fireworks display to kick off the festival, the Grand Parade, civic reception
with the mayor, music memorabilia fair and an outdoor marching bands night with
fireworks finale. All of this on top of four town centre stages playing music of
all kinds for the whole five days. To top it all off the legendary Bob Dylan is
playing at the Bournemouth International Centre
on the final night.
The event kicks off at noon in Bournemouth Square with the following acts:
Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band
Always ready to rock the house, the King of the Swingers Geno Washington is the
incarnation of all things '60s. Hipsters and flipsters, movers and shakers
alike, are all rendered incapable of having a bad time, when the Good Time Guru
gets his army of fans on the good foot! The old Geno magic still drags them in
and sends them home high.
Mohair
Superbly entertaining four-piece comprising of guitar, hammond, drums and
occasional trumpet, creating an ostensibly British-Indie sound, all awash with
intense 70s-esque riffery, pogo-inducing bounceability and joyous,
Wilson-inspired three part harmonies.
The Martin Harley Band
The Martin Harley Band are an energetic, soulful and mesmerising
folk/roots/blues trio. Their original sound blends three part harmonies over a
backdrop of stunning finger style and slide guitar, homemade acoustic bass and
brush drums.Infectious and thoroughly entertaining as well as superb musicians.
Eugene Hideaway Bridges Big Band
As well as the expected mastery of his instrument, Eugene possesses the kind of
voice and songwriting that most blues musicians would die for. Hailing from
Texas and son of a legendary blues man, he rocks, he rolls, he wails and he can
play the guitar like he’s ringing a bell. Mojo called him ‘Eugenius’: we call
him the blues personified. A formidable performer.
Derrin Nauendorf
Derrin's blend of soul, blues, folk and Aussie roots has seen him forge himself
a reputation as being one of Australia's foremost acoustic artists. Now
augmented by two other musicians and having signed a major publishing deal,
Derrin’s jazzy, bluesy, rootsy, extremely good-y songs resonate with an air of
the instant classic abou them.
The Gabby Young Collective
This 5-piece display a mix of influences, mainly soul, jazz, blues and funk.
Gabby's powerful soul voice has seen her described as the female Jeff Buckley,
and is supported wonderfully by jazzy drums, funky, effect-laden electric lead
guitar, reggae-like rhythm acoustic guitar and the solid bass grooves.
Pete Christe
Local acoustic hero Pete Christie who has played here in support of Glenn
Tilbrook, Derrin Nauendorf and many others. Energetic and lively yet capable of
delicate intimacy, Pete's music isn't easily pigeonholed... somewhere in between
the guitar of Harper and Martyn and the wit of Dylan or Bragg.
Rat Race
Well, what can we say about these guys? One of our favourite bands playing the
one type of music that everyone can dance to: two tone ska. This 9-piece band
will be getting the party started with their takes on BadManners, Madness, The
Specials, The Beat, Jimmy Cliff and more.

SWANAGE FOLK FESTIVAL – SEPTEMBER 8 –
10
The festival kicks off this year with a Friday night concert featuring Vin
Garbutt, aided and abetted by Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies and all held together
by MC Bram Taylor. On Saturday evening Tanglefoot from Canada will be supported
at the Middle School by Colvin Quarmby and Quicksilver. The MC for the evening
will be Ben Campbell.
For those who enjoy a little more active music we there are two dance bands, The
Woodpecker Band and Mawkin. The common thread on Saturday night in the marquee
will be Gordon Potts, the caller who will get everybody dancing in his own
unique style.
Once again there will be two concerts in the more refined atmosphere of St
Mary’s Parish Church. On Saturday afternoon the entertainment will be provided
by Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies and to round off the festival the Sunday evening
concert features music by Craig, Robinson and Morgan and the ever popular Tom
McConville and Pauline Cato.
