The Dorset Blues Society, which celebrated its sixth birthday on
February 28, has been awarded £6,000 by the national Youth Music organisation.
The funding will support ‘BIG GIRLS’ BLUES’, a project for girls and young women
aged 14-18, who would like to begin or improve their blues, soul and gospel
singing.
The project will run from late March until July at Dorchester Arts Centre.
Participation is free; those taking part will be:
* taught by professional musicians & music teachers
* helped to develop their singing and stagecraft
* encouraged to learn about the music business
Tom Hopkins, founder and chairperson of the Dorset Blues Society said: "This is
award is great news and a wonderful birthday present for our organisation. More
importantly, it shows that Youth Music has confidence in us, based on our having
now run more than 50 live Bluesnights, four Summer Schools, and a number of
workshops over the last six years".
The project will start with a half-day workshop at Dorchester Arts Centre on
Tuesday 29 March. Anyone who would like more information about the project
