MAY 2003

Former Zombies Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent revisit the Waterside Theatre at Holbury in the New Forest on Friday June 6, the scene of their sell-out triumph last September. That concert, arranged by Hythe fan Linda Charles, was a memorable high-quality affair, and the June date promises to be even better.
The Holbury gig is one of only six UK dates to feature a string quartet - a huge success recently when Colin and Rod played Salisbury City Hall. The inclusion of a quartet of superb classical musicians enables Colin to perform original arrangements of “Say You Don’t Mind,” “Misty Roses” and “I Don’t Believe in Miracles” exactly as they were recorded back in the 1970s. A spine-tingling experience, as anyone who was at Salisbury will confirm.
Naturally, all the Zombies hits like “She’s Not There” and “Time Of The
Season” will get an airing, plus some Argent favourites, notably “Hold Your Head Up” and “God Gave Rock & Roll To You.” Add some new material written by Rod and sung by Colin in his immaculate, breathtaking style plus the backing of a stellar band and you really have a night to remember. Tickets are £15 via 02380 207900.

MUSIC is a major theme of a Fun Day/Summer Fete being held by the YMCA at their headquarters in Southampton on Saturday May 31.  The aim is to raise money to send some of their tenants to Prague to attend an event in Prague where around 6000 young people will be getting together to develop body, mind and spirit and leadership skills.
The YMCA are looking for local musicians to play for free at the fete at which there will also be food, fun, stalls, facepainting and other  entertainments.  Everyone is welcome to the event which starts at 12 noon on May 31 at the YMCA HQ at Cranbury Place Southampton.
Contact Claire or Maria at the YMCA Housing Office on 02380 221202 for further information.

JOHN Beland may not be a household name but there are numerous reasons for going to see him when he plays in the Albert Bar at South Parade Pier, Southsea on Monday May 19.
For starters, John was a member of The Flying Burrito Brothers, one of the greatest American country rock bands during the 1970s and 1980s. He has also recorded with members of The Eagles and The Byrds, Kris Kristofferson and Dolly Parton to name but a few. As a songwriter, his work has been recorded by artistes as diverse as Joe Cocker and Engelbert Humperdinck. John was also chosen to replace James Burton as lead guitarist in Elvis Presley’s band in the early 1970s, but James decided to stay on. Tickets are £7 via Barking Spider Promotions on 02392 436267.
