PLAYING OUT LOUD!
NEWS

SUPPORT THE BROOK!

Southampton’s friendliest music venue, The Brook, is having a few financial problems at the moment. Liquidators Fanshawe Lofts have been appointed to sort out a rescue plan and I am assured that the future is still bright for the venue. The message from The Brook is: “For the time being, anyone who has bought tickets for forthcoming events should expect them to take place unless we say otherwise.” Already several successful events have taken place successfully since the announcement, including a sell-out set from The Jeff Healey Blues Band.

The Brook has been providing quality live music in Southampton for the last 13 years and we do not want to lose a terrific venue with an atmosphere all its own. Without The Brook we would not have had the privilege of seeing artists like Scotty Moore, Nazareth, Taj Mahal, Tony Joe White, Robert Cray and so many other great acts who don’t seem to get booked at other bigger local venues! The Brook has an international reputation and music fans come to Southampton from many miles away knowing they are going to have a great welcome and a fabulous night. So the message is get down to The Brook regularly and make sure it can continue to stage the best in live music. You can see what’s coming up on the website www.the-brook.com , so ring all your mates and help ensure we have live music at The Brook for many years to come!

STATE OF UNDRESS

‘Red Waters,’ a song written by Dorset-based band State of Undress has been picked up by the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society for their national Save The Whale Week this month. The song is available as a downloadable CD single from major sites including iTunes, Napster and eMusic with all proceeds from downloads and airplay being donated to the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society.

Save The Whale Week (June 18 – 23) is part of WDCS’s ongoing Stop Bloody Whaling Campaign and the organisation is calling upon people around the UK to help raise vital funds to stop commercial whaling for good.

Although the song ‘Red Waters’ was written some years ago after the lead singer of State of Undress, Charlie Rose, was inspired to start performing it again after she and her family went on a whale watching trip in New Zealand. On their return the news was full of footage of commercial whaling from Norway – they just couldn’t believe it.

State of Undress are playing a number of gigs throughout Save The Whale Week in support of the campaign including the official launch of ‘Red Waters- at the Half Moon in Putney on Sunday June 17. The following day they play an hour-long gig in Saxon Square, Christchurch from about 1pm, then set off for some gigs in Scotland, also stopping to play a couple of gigs en route.

For more information about how you can be involved in Save The Whale Week or the movement in general contact WDCS on 01249 449512 or log on to www.wdcs.org . To keep up to date with State of Undress have a look at www.stateofundress.com
