PLAYING OUT LOUD!
NEWS
We have been contacted by the BBC's Culture Show regarding an appearance by The
Handsome Family on the programme. They are offering fans of this great American
band the opportunity to be in the audience for the show. We reproduce their
email below, so if any of you music fans out there want to attend just contact
the link on the email.
Hi there
I wonder if you might be able to help. I work on the Culture Show, a BBC2
programme about music and the arts. The Handsome Family are coming down on
Tuesday 23rd October to perform a track for us and appear on the show and I am
trying to gather together a small audience of fans to appear in our venue, to
support them and watch the performance. It would be great to have some real fans
there and I was hoping that you might be able to notify the members of your
mailing group of the opportunity and tell any London based fans to contact me
through my email laura.stevens2@bbc.co.uk
to apply for a place in the audience. We film between 9.30am and 3.30pm on
Tuesday 23rd October in Central London so may not be any use to anyone who has
to work but I thought it would be really nice to have some people there to cheer
them on.
Thank you in advance for any help on this. Best
Laura Stevens

TIME TO CELEBRATE, THE BROOK IS SAVED...
The Brook is back. After months of growing concern that Southampton's well loved
Music venue would close, it can now be officially reported that the Brook will
remain open and serving its customers with everything they have loved and more.
The Brook is now under new ownership but will retain the familiar faces and
assets that have contributed to its growing reputation.
As of today, The Brook's new owners are a company called Stage4 Ltd, which was
recently set up to save the popular music venue. Two of the four company
directors will be familiar to Brook locals, Dylan Clarke and Stewart Cross.
Dylan, a regular performer and employee of the Brook for 13 years said "I am
delighted to be part of the team that is able to keep this music venue alive. It
is the best possible outcome for all the fans and customers of the Brook. I
would like to thank everybody who has shown such outstanding support on our
website. These best wishes have driven us on."
"This is a great day for the South's music scene" said Stewart Cross, proprietor
of the Platform Tavern which is famed for its intimate live music and food. "I
have been a patron of the Brook since it started and live music has always been
close to my heart. There will certainly be a lot of celebrating with my existing
and new customers."
Since it was first announced that the Brook was in trouble there was a lot of
speculation as to what the future would hold for the Brook. The new owners want
to ensure that all of the elements remain that are intrinsic to the venue's
reputation and the Brooks friendly atmosphere will be there to welcome customers
and artists back.
Nils Lofgren, famous as a solo artist and long-timer member of Bruce
Springsteen's E Street Band said "Some of our best gigs in the last decade have
been in front of the fabulous crowds at the Brook. Love the vibe, the crowds,
the bars close by! The after show hang with the audience. It has always been an
inspired group to play for."
Nick Murphy, Southampton City Council's Executive Director for Neighbourhoods
said: "This is great news for the city. The Brook is an important part of
Southampton's lively music scene. We hope to be able to work with the new owners
to ensure it continues to be an important feature of the city for residents and
visitors alike. Long may the music play!"
Future plans include the Brook working closely with the Council to look at how
the venue can be utilized further for the Southampton community.
The Brook would like to welcome its customers back and ask them to continue
their support and help make August a celebration, go online to
www.the-brook.com
to see events and buy tickets.
